Criteria for Employers
For an Australian business to successfully nominate you in 2026, they must meet the following updated requirements.
Approved Work Sponsor Status
Employers must hold a valid Standard Business Sponsorship (SBS).
Businesses can obtain Accredited Status, which can speed up nomination approvals.
Labour Market Testing (LMT)
Employers must demonstrate the role has been advertised locally within the last 4 months.
Some sectors under the 2026 reforms may see streamlined requirements to reduce red tape.
TSMIT Requirement
The guaranteed salary must meet the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT), currently
AUD 76,515 for the 2025-2026 financial year, or the
Specialist Threshold AUD 141,210 for high-end roles.
Training Levy (SAF)
Employers must pay the Skilling Australians Fund (SAF).
This is generally AUD 1,200/year for small businesses and
AUD 1,800/year for large businesses for each year of the visa.
Health, Character & Family
